Welcome!
One year during my teacher career I was put in charge of our school’s Fourth of July celebration program. I was asked to have my students perform a play in honor of America’s birthday. I could have easily gone through already published plays and picked out something appropriate. The Broadway musical, 1776, would have been the perfect choice for such an important occasion. But I didn’t even think about using someone else’s ideas and words. I knew what I wanted to do. I would write my own script about America’s story. With the cooperation of the music and gym teachers, I incorporated songs and dances that represented the various historical eras in our country’s history. The result was a multi-media presentation, which students, teachers, and parents enjoyed. I didn’t know it at the time, but that marked the beginning of my career as a writer of children’s history.
